:::: highlights ::::
In the years between 1949 and 1962, while the cultural movement of Neorealism
increasingly acclaimed by critics and the public, Ando Gilardi
performed throughout Italy its photo reportages
on commission of the magazine Lavoro (the mouthpiece of CGIL-trade union) or
for scholars Etnologists Ernesto De Martino (University of Sassari),
Tullio Seppilli (University of Perugia) and Diego Carpitella (Etno-musical
Institute of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome). Fototeca Gilardi preserves
hundreds of photographs that depict fragments of life really "real" lived
in those years, people and places more real than Neorealistics. More true
than the famous "Bicycle thieves" there are the anonymous artisans that
fixed them: it is only one example. Merry and many characters, Italy's
protagonists of the postwar period
and of the economic boom.
